The Saratoga Blossom Festival

Spring is finally here. The morning air’s a little less crisp, the sun feels warmer on your skin and best of all there are flowers blooming everywhere in California. Saratoga, a small town on San Francisco’s peninsula, celebrates as it’s done since 1900 – with a fair.
If Lorelai and Rory Gilmore lived in California, Saratoga would be their Stars Hollow. Surrounding the public library, council chambers and theatre is the town’s “historic orchard”, filled with all kinds of fruit trees.

If you lived in a town built on historic orchards, and that town was a bit like Stars Hollow, what would you do? Of course you’d plant an orchard on a 13.9 acre plot of land with cherry, apricot, peach and nectarine trees. I didn’t find Taylor Dosee, but there’s no doubt that his double had a hand in this!

The orchard is built on part of the Quito Rancho, which dates back to the 1880s. The festival began in 1900 after a two year drought broke. Edwin Sidney Williams wanted to everyone to be able to see the flowers and be able to enjoy a watery spring.

Today it’s a celebration of blossoms as well as the 30’s and 40’s, with bands, vintage cars and machinery, stalls, food trucks and tours of the orchard. I thoroughly enjoyed it, so I thought I’d share my day in pictures with you.

  2. Stars Hollow!!! My daughter and I are big Gilmore Girls fans. She for the first time and me for the second time. We're watching the original series on Netflix. At least now I'll have a buddy who will appreciate any Stars-Hollow-ish towns we may visit in the future. Like this one!

  3. That was a beautiful place and post! Such great blossoms. Go Spring!! My bro-in-law and his wife live in Saratoga…NSW Central Coast version!! Thanks for linking up for #lifethisweek 12/52. Next week: 3 Month Review 2017.

  4. Oh so much pretty! I wouldn’t mind a slice of your spring, our autumn is leaving me less than impressed this year. I love how much Californians love their classic cars – they even bring them to Disneyland for the half marathon.

  5. This sounds like the most perfect festival! I’m such a sucker for flowers which is why I love spring so much. The food trucks and old cars make these festival even more personable.
